MOD movie returns

The long out-of-print Mod classic, Quadrophenia (1979), will be released on DVD and Blu-ray by the Criterion Collection on August 28th. From Criterion: "The Who’s classic rock opera Quadrophenia was the basis for this invigorating coming-of-age movie and depiction of the defiant, drug-fueled mod subculture of early 1960s London. Our antihero is Jimmy (Phil Daniels), a teenager dissatisfied with family, work, and love. He spends his time knocking around with his clothes-obsessed, pill-popping, scooter-driving fellow mods, a group whose antipathy for the motorcycle-riding rockers leads to a climactic riot in Brighton. Director Franc Roddam’s rough-edged film is a quintessential chronicle of youthful rebellion and turmoil, with Pete Townshend’s brilliant songs (including “I’ve Had Enough,” “5:15,” and “Love Reign O’er Me”) providing emotional support, and featuring Sting and Ray Winstone in early roles." The disc features a new restored and uncut print supervised by the cinematographer, a 5.1 surround mix supervised by The Who, director commentary, interviews, 1964 and 1965 French TV episodes about Mod culture and The Who, personal history by Mod, Irish Jack, and more!

Lambrettas, racing and speed records

The Lambretta is so well conceived that it starts setting world records the year after it is launched. These Italian scooters challenge the French-made light motorcycles that have been dominating the four-speed 125cc class up until now. In its first experiment to turn two Lambretta As into racing machines, Innocenti reduces the structure of the frame to the bare essentials, replacing the rear section with sections of light tubing.

A large fuel tank is placed between the rider’s legs in true motorcycle fashion to enable the scooter to cover long distances without having to stop to refuel. There is a larger carburettor, the muffler is reduced to a straight tube, and the engine has a higher compression ratio. The engineers also install a dynamic aluminium conveyor to help improve the engine cooling. At this point the engine is capable of a maximum of just 5300 RPM, which is relatively low for a racing motor scooter.
The engineer entrusted with the task of organising the first trial of the racing scooter is Luigino Innocenti, the son of the illustrious founder. On the morning of 11 February 1949 the Lambretta prepares to set a new world record on the road from Rome to Ostia. Ridden for nine hours at a stretch, it breaks thirteen world records: nine of them in the four-speed 125cc class, and four in the class up to 175cc.
Despite this remarkable success, the head engineer Pier Luigi Torre is still not satisfied and makes some further modifications in an attempt to shave off precious seconds.

Eurovespa in Belgium 1958

Eurovespa was an annual Vespa rally run between 1954 and 2007, (with a decade-long break in the 1970s), Vespisti from Europe and abroad gathered at Eurovespa for the grandest en largest rally known to scooterkind.

On 14th March 2006 Vespa World Club was created by Piaggio & C. S.p.A. and the Piaggio Foundation to promote, unite and co-ordinate all the Vespa clubs in the world.

In 2007, Eurovespa transformed into Vespa World Days under the supervision of the Vespa World Club. The last Eurovespa was held in Torino, In 2007 the first Vespa World Days were held in San Marino.

Each year there is a meeting between Presidents of National Vespa Clubs, Vespa World Club and Piaggio to discuss the running of Vespa World Club and to decide where future Vespa World Days will be hosted. Vespa World Days is run by a local Vespa Club.

In 2009, during the meeting in Zell Am See (Oostenrijk), Belgium officially presented her candidature to host the VWD in 2013.
In 2011 the meeting agreed that Vespa World Days 2013 will be hosted in Belgium.

This is 55 years after the first and only eurovespa in Belgium, that was held during the world expo in 1958 (4 Jul 1958 to 7 Jul 1958). 1500 Vespists come to the Eurovespa in Brussels.

Indonesia Scooter

The only thing i know about vespa scence in Indonesia is RAT style. They custom it a lot, and look dust, like the picture here.

But when i see some old pictures taken in 60s-70s in Indonesia from Okiadityo Tumblr. I change my opinion. And actually they have their own scooter magazine: www.indonesiascootermagazine.com. It's so cool. There are a lot of scooters here in Vietnam, but we dont have scooter magazine. Lets see some old pictures from Okiadityo Tumblr.
