IndependenceFirst Mobility Store

The IndependenceFirst Mobility Store in Wauwatosa gives used medical equipment a second life while helping more people access affordable mobility products. Operated by the disability-services nonprofit IndependenceFirst, the store grew from a wheelchair-recycling initiative. Donated equipment is cleaned, refurbished, and offered for resale rather than going unused when it still has practical value.

The available selection can include wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers, hospital beds, and adaptive bicycles. Because much of the inventory comes from donations, the exact mix changes over time. That makes the store different from a conventional showroom with a fixed product catalog: shoppers may discover useful refurbished equipment at a price below a comparable new item, but selection depends on what has been received and prepared.

The program combines a practical retail service with a broader community mission. Reusing equipment reduces waste and can ease the financial pressure on people seeking independence at home or in daily life. For Wauwatosa-area customers, the Mobility Store offers a place to explore refurbished devices while supporting a nonprofit focused on accessibility and disability services. The emphasis is on giving refurbished equipment another useful life while making mobility products more accessible to the community.
