World of Bikes

World of Bikes has served Iowa City from South Gilbert Street since 1974. The full-service shop carries a broad mix of brands including Trek, Salsa, Surly, Electra and Co-Motion, with electric-assist bicycles from Trek and Velotric. A demonstration fleet gives shoppers a way to experience some pedal-assist models before deciding.

Mechanics maintain bicycles of many ages and styles, from straightforward tune-ups to wheel building and restoration of older machines. Rentals cover road, fat-tire and children's bikes, making cycling possible for visitors without their own equipment. Families can use a children's trade-in program when a young rider outgrows a frame. The store also refurbishes traded-in bicycles and has donated machines to the Iowa City Bike Library.

Group rides, RAGBRAI support and e-bike demonstrations at the farmers market reflect a strong connection to local cycling. Customers sometimes travel significant distances for the selection and mechanical knowledge. This is a bicycle and e-bike destination rather than a motor-scooter service shop, with a particularly broad mix of retail, repairs, rentals and community projects.
